Guerriero Nero – Marche Rosso IGT

Sangiovese, Montepulciano and Cabernet Sauvignon in a 40-40-20 blend, unusual for a red from the Marche.

It's rare to find, in the Marche, a blend that pairs the two most deeply rooted Italian grape varieties of the territory with a share of Cabernet Sauvignon. It is the choice of Azienda Agraria Guerrieri of Terre Roveresche, which limits yield in the vineyard and practises a late, selective harvest.

The colour is a deep ruby; the bouquet reveals itself as complex and layered, with violet opening the way before giving space to spices, lightly minty tobacco, bitter cocoa and vanilla. It is the long skin maceration and 10 months in barrique — plus another 6-8 in bottle — that build this persistent structure.

A red for red meats and game, best served at 18°C after at least an hour of decanting in a carafe.
