Grappa di Sangiovese alla Ruta – Il Cerro
Silver medal at the 6th edition of the Grappa Award, the competition that rewards the best Italian grappas.
It is the most awarded product of Il Cerro, the micro-distillery Enrico Venturini started in 2024 in Cerreto di Saludecio, among the hills of Rimini: the first producer in Emilia-Romagna to work exclusively with regional grape varieties, with a still he built himself after learning to distil as a boy with his grandfather's still, a local grape grower.
The base is a Sangiovese pomace grappa, flavoured with wild rue gathered in the woods surrounding the distillery — the same plant used for centuries in Romagna farming tradition for "medicinal" after-dinner grappas. The result is a spirit with a decisive character, where the herbaceous, slightly bitter notes typical of rue intertwine with the vinous warmth of Sangiovese.
A traditional digestif, to be served at the end of a meal at room temperature or slightly chilled.
