Dolcetto d'Alba – Luigi Pira
This winery's Dolcetto vineyards were planted starting in 1980 and are located in Serralunga d'Alba, the same town as the legendary crus from which the estate's Barolo is born.
The Pira family has worked the land of Serralunga since the early 1950s. Today the winery farms 12 hectares planted with Nebbiolo, Dolcetto and Barbera, led by Giampaolo Pira. The Dolcetto comes from about 2 hectares at 330 metres of altitude, north-facing, on calcareous-clay soil.
Vinified in temperature-controlled steel for 8-10 days, ageing continues for another 8 months, still in steel, never passing through wood. The colour turns between ruby and violet; the nose recalls small berries alongside cherry, while the palate finds a good balance between the lively acidity, the present tannin and the alcoholic warmth.
The "everyday" red of the Langhe: perfect with cured meats, Piedmontese appetisers, seasoned first courses and fresh or semi-aged cheeses.
Origin: Dolcetto d'Alba DOC, Serralunga d'Alba (Piedmont, Italy)
